My news feed is filled with such videos, interspersed with videos of Russian soldiers narrating how they raped 4 girls, 3 boys and 6 adult women and then shot them in the head.
Civilizational differences are real, and we do nobody any favors pretending that people are interchangeable widgets.

One definition of civilization is living in cities. By this definition, Russia is mostly uncivilized, having only two major cities.
An example of a state becoming civilized is Georgia, which has moved on from the Deliverance era to become a blue state now that the Atlanta suburbs outnumber the hillbillies.
The most interesting example is China, which was a largely agrarian society under Mao but is now a country of huge cities. Further progress will probably need a new generation of leaders willing to learn from successful Chinese cities like Hong Kong, Taipei, and Singapore.

I guess a major difference between SA and the US is that in SA a lot of political differences are at the city level. Suburbs are right wing, working class neighborhoods are left wing and hardly anyone cares about the rural population.
