Illegal Migrant Crime

Whenever one shares such horrific news, the response one gets is, “citizens commit such crimes, too.” Which is absolutely true and constitutes an additional argument for not allowing people without visas and green cards to be on the territory of the US.

Citizens commit crime, too, yes. And a lot. We have higher crime rates than many developed countries. In view of that fact, why would we want to add to the crime we already have? This is the most bizarre way of arguing in support of mass migration. “We already have criminals, so why not add more?” Well, precisely because we already have them, we shouldn’t bring in additional ones.

Another sentimental favorite is, “immigrants commit less crime than natives.” True, but so what? Are you proposing to deport the natives who commit felonies and bring in less violent people instead? If so, please look at the stats of which group in the US gets most often incarcerated for violent offences in proportion to group size, and ask yourself whether you have truly thought through what you are suggesting. If you aren’t suggesting mass deportations of African Americans, good. Because that would be a terrible thing to insinuate. But then what is your argument?

“Honey, the living room is trashed! What should we do?”

“Trash the bathroom, too, of course, because it’s smaller!”

None of this makes sense.

The reason why illegal migrants are brought up in connection with crime isn’t that they commit more of it than the natives. It’s that they don’t have to be here at all. It’s one thing if your cat pisses on the floor of your bedroom and quite another if a neighbor’s pet routinely wanders in to piss on your furniture. Even the most oblivious homeowner would start locking the door at this point instead of arguing that, well, if my cat does it, then I should just fling the door open completely. Forget cats. Let’s turn the whole place into a public toilet for every passerby.

My mom broke a vase I loved. She’s my mom, so I got over it. But if every retiree on the block comes by to break my crockery, I’m sorry but I have to draw the line, even if they do it much less frequently than my mom.

See the previous post for what it means when people lose the capacity to understand what the nation means as a shared project.

  1. So, pray tell why Republicans are against e-verify and other visa matters which most illegal immigrants use to get here?

        1. Visa overstays is how most illegal immigrants get here, not via the border. Dems have been asking for a comprehensive immigration overhaul for years. Nothing from the other side.

          1. Dems had a president for the last 3.5 years. I didn’t notice any effort expended on comprehensive immigration overhaul. I don’t believe they really want to change the status quo.

          2. This is an outdated talking line. A new one was dropped years again. Please stay current with your propaganda.

Also, “comprehensive immigration overhaul” means amnesty. Voters are overwhelmingly opposed to that.

            1. Voters, as we’ve established, are stupid. To get an immigration bill, you have to have some amnesty and some border/visa enforcement. That’s called pragmatism. But you may contribute hoping to get everything you want and get nothing as a result.

  2. I was reading recently of a sociology professor in Spain who says that racism and inequality will not disappear until it is accepted that migrants have the same right to commit crimes as natives.

For a moment I was flabbergasted to think that an academic has it in her head that people – whether citizens or non-citizens – have a “right” to commit crimes and that progress is achieved when everybody enjoys such a presumed right, but then I remembered the state of academia these days and everything made sense.

    1. We’d be doing pretty well if we could get to a point where everybody, regardless of color, had the same “right” to commit crimes (i.e. very little) that working-class whites in America currently enjoy.

    2. At least, this person is making an argument. It’s an insane argument but at least there’s a realization some conceptual framework is needed. One can argue with it. One can ask what this person means by “a right”.

But this endlessly repeated mantra that illegals commit less crime than natives – what does it even mean? It’s so weird.

      1. I expect the idea is that if you dilute the population with a lower-crime-propensity population, you get a lower crime rate automatically, so yay?

No word on the cost of that project in social services resources, effect on the existing population, or the adequacy of the infrastructure they’re being dumped on.

  3. It’s not even true that immigrants commit fewer crimes than Americans. As usual, the stats do not tell you the complete picture. For a huge number of cases the local DA will not charge them with the appropriate crime out of “compassion” because that would trigger immigration consequences. So felonies get pleaded down to misdemeanors and so on.

        1. Yeah, if you’re a numbers person, that’s great, right?

Defund the police, and crime goes down! Like magic! See the little line, on the little graph! Amazing!

Of course, you don’t want to live there, but that’s because your job is somewhere else.

  4. I personally know of one such case. Husband beat the shit out of his wife over a period of months, wife has video evidence of this, goes to the police. The DA decided not to charge him with a felony because of his immigration status (f-1 student). All the compassion libs have is reserved for people who do not deserve it.

    1. I faced a similar situation with a postdoc whose wife seemed to fall down the stairs and break her arm at a frequency far above normal (thrice in a year — for an otherwise healthy young female with no chronic or debilitating condition). No action or reporting was done from the university healthcare authorities although every university employee is a “mandatory reporter” of conduct that can cause bodily harm to self/others. Finally, we had a professional fall out (he was not much competent either) and I had an opportunity to fire him (thank god!). I anyway could not bring myself to extend him the trust and respect I accord my coworkers after knowing about his abhorrent conduct in his personal life…

  5. @Anonymous Dems have been asking for a comprehensive immigration overhaul for years. [Roaring laughter]

A comprehensive immigration overhaul to do what? To make it even easier for illegals to get into the country and stay in it once they are there. Do you think that readers on this blog were born under the Christmas tree? What a befuddled twat you must be.

    1. It’s all a code for amnesty. “A bipartisan immigration bill” that Trump somehow prevented from being signed is amnesty. All of the preceding “comprehensive immigration reforms were amnesty.” The only thing we ever get on immigration is amnesty and more immigration. Any administration, any party. It’s been like that since 1984 and it will continue being like that until we are all Springfield, Ohio.

  6. My anger not directed at the DemoCRAPS, they function as but the puppet show. My RAGE at the incest Federal bureaucracy government established corporate monopolies/lobbies. This whore-house has a revolving door. Ever wonder why it costs so much money to get into elected offices? Ever wonder the MSM media silence concerning the SWAMP Federal bureaucracy total corruption? I hate to bust your complacent bubble, but the US “democracy” just a SHAM. Wake up and smell the coffee.
