Now Canada has to elect Pierre Poilievre, and the hard right turn in North America will be complete.

Nobody can say that Americans and Canadians didn’t give the modern Left a chance. Every social engineering policy, every readjustment of the economy, every DEI initiative were tried. Not only did they fail to create any improvement in any area but their authors themselves only got angrier and more frustrated as a result of  every one of their own victories.

DEI lost today. This is a victory for all of us. All Americans won a big victory. This is one of those rare situations where there are no winners and losers. The far left that has been dictating to us for years is bad for all of us. That it’s been beaten back is great news. No matter how you voted, I know that you’ll feel better as a result of DEI’s loss.

  3. This could go down in history as the Administrative Overreach election. Depending on how big the margin was in PA, it’s possible they lost the state because the USDA raided one too many Amish farms. Those guys don’t usually vote.

  4. I’m not looking forward to watching progressives go insane for another 4 years (although maybe they’re getting tired). But whatever happens going forward, I will always savor the pathetic temper tantrum on the front page of the New York Times this morning.

      That’s extraordinary. And it shows that the people are paying attention. The putative success of Bidenomics wasn’t something actual voters actually observed.

    3. Progressivism was soundly defeated in this election. All the fake ourage and preaching did not have the effect they expect. Their tactics are done. Their outrage meaningless. Most people don’t believe them nor what they believe and preach.

      The Democrat party will need serious readjustment if they ever want to get back to power.

      Also. They lost the senate and congress hangs on a thread; supreme court is potentially out of reach for a generation. They have no real federal power anymore to enact anything. They can pout all they want.

  5. Are you not concerned that Trump and a Republican congress will turn off all support for Ukraine? I know Biden could have been a LOT better on Ukraine, but there seem to be a lot of Republicans who want to provide zero support.

        1. I have no idea. But I have a hard time seeing how Trump could possibly be any worse than the Biden admin on this one.

          It’s a sh*tty situation, awful for UKR either way largely because of the current admin, and I think we just cross our fingers and hope the last four years haven’t completely trashed their chances.

          1. Meth: If Ukraine holds on until Trump gets inaugurated, he’ll let Ukraine strike Russian targets. He might even give Ukraine some nukes. With the way things go right now, Israel will nuke Iran so it won’t matter anyways.

            TomW: Zelensky will provide dirt on Trump’s political enemies and have to pretend to play both sides anymore. He wants those weapons. Democrats won’t control anything important any time soon.

        2. Yes of course! He closes a bunch of wonderful deals all the time and now he can rebuild the big beautiful Great Wall of Me-hi-co paid for by the Mexican government! Just like the tariffs! Which will definitely decrease inflation! I am looking forward to eggs that are 5 cents each and gas which is $1.50/gallon instead of the absurdity it is now.

          Trump needs to repeal the Cuban Readjustment Act of 1966 style immigration system that happened under Biden-Harris. My god, I want to lay down after reading about the Mariel boatlift or purchase guns. All this time?! Just keep my trusty hammer nearby.

Continuing as we have for almost 3 years, with slow-dripping of aid that is just enough to survive, with vague promises, with skillfully nourished hopes that something big is about to come and help – this is unsustainable. Kharkiv is being slowly razed to the ground. This method we’ve been using has not worked. We need another method.

      1. I really can’t imagine the US doing more given the lack of support for Ukraine among many Republican politicians. OTOH, if the US disengages that would push the big European countries to do much more which might be a good thing in the long run.

        1. We need the permission to strike the Russian airbases. That’s the main thing. We’ve been begging for that for years. If the bombers can’t get up in the air, they can’t bomb peaceful cities. This has been a major bone of contention. Biden has been adamant that it’s a no without giving an explanation.

  6. This winning and losing business led me to this quote from Richard Greenberg’s play Take Me Out. Here a financial manager is musing about baseball:

    “. . . I have come (with no little excitement) to understand that baseball is a perfect metaphor for hope in a Democratic society.

    “It has to do with the rules of play.

    “It has to do with the mode of enforcement of these rules.

    “It has to do with certain nuances and grace notes of the game.

    “First, it’s the remarkable symmetry of everything.

    “All those threes and multiples of three–calling attention to–virtually making a fetish of the game’s noble equality.

    “Equality, that is, of opportunity.

    “Everyone is given exactly the same chance.

    “And the opportunity to exercise that chance at his own pace.

    “There’s none of that scurry, none of that relentlessness that marks other games–basketball, football, and hockey . . . .

    “What I mean is, in baseball there’s no clock.

    1. It’s a beautiful quote but I have to nitpick and mention that conservatives don’t believe that nobody will lose if you leave things alone. We believe that many will lose. And that’s fine. Losing badly and a lot is a natural part of the human condition. So baseball is conservative, after all. 🙂
