In reality, it’s not STEM vs Humanities. It’s bloody Psychology – a completely fake degree that its own faculty openly refer to as “fluff” – that’s destroying higher ed. Half of the incoming Freshman class goes into psychology, and then everybody who flunks out of actual disciplines joins them there. There are no jobs for a BA in psychology because the degree doesn’t let you see patients or offer counseling.
There’s a tragic shortage of competent psych providers but that’s an issue that is entirely disconnected from the overproduction of Psychology BAs.

If I was 18 rather than 68 I’d study to be a machinist or finish carpenter. Simply play music on the side.
