Elon Musk is smart. He reoriented everybody’s attention away from his exceptionally unpopular stance on H1-B visas towards the pedo rape scandal in the UK. It’s a very real scandal, and he’s done the world a great favor by attracting attention to it. But what a smart way to emerge from his own recent troubles.

So _that’s_ where that came from… I’d been wondering why such an old story that the media took pains to not be interested in was back…. I’m glad it is being revisited (though I’m sure nothing whatsoever was done in the UK to stop the gangs, operating in many cities not just Rotherham).
I’m not so sure it was Musk personally but he obviously has someone on staff who knows the importance of changing the conversation and how to do it (I remember the weird ‘limit’ he put on how many tweets people could see which distracted everyone away from some technical problems the site was having).

Of course. The story helps rebrand Musk from “favors mass migration” into “opposes mass migration.” Smart, elegant, effective but we can’t complain because nobody was talking about it otherwise. Now the British authorities might even have to do something about the rape gangs. I don’t really care that it’s self-serving as long as it’s done.

Maybe. But I also think Elon Musk is truly exposing the growing tech oligarchy that is taking shape in the US, and this does not necessarily mean good things for him or the rest of his peers. There really is a lot of social tension, anxiety, and anger at the growing inequality in the US. Elon Must is front and center of this and he may come to regret exposing himself so much to this anger.
