we remember when things were “normal” except the rot was there growing under the surface. I’m thrilled with Trumps aggressive pace but wonder whether we can secure any of these wins.

I was thinking the same thing. These sweeping changes are all based on the President’s executive orders, not on acts of Congress. Unless relevant legislation is passed, the next Democrat president is going to repeal everything and bring back the status quo ante. “With laws shall the land be governed”.

We remember living in a house we didn’t have to pay rent on, and being given the bog-standard advice to not buy a house unless you could put 20% down in cash, and never finance for more than 1.5x your annual income. The part where that is no longer possible… is radicalizing people.
