I still can’t get over the story of a dude who opened a school for computer programmers in Ukraine. It was very successful, so he decided to open another one in Mexico.

      1. Even Spain has no science of its own. The discussion in Spain of why that is the case is as old as modern science.

      2. I like to say that Latin America was colonized by the wrong Europeans, the Spaniards just wanted to plunder and get rich quick, unfortunately they were successful. The first British settlers in Jamestown quickly realized there was no gold and they were living in a swamp, so they had to farm and trade instead.

        I say this as someone who is proud of their Cuban heritage but doesn’t like Spanish or Latino culture or people very much, I don’t relate to Hispanic people except for a few more conservative people or those who are assimilated. Too many Hispanic people think their culture is amazing and flawless when in reality most of those countries are a mess with loads of poor people and dictatorships, if Latin America had been colonized by the British or the Dutch, they’d be better off

    2. This is not entirely true. A few of my husband’s family members, including himself, migrated to US and all are doing very well for themselves. They all entered through 100% legal pathways. They are lawyers, doctors, accountants, … You will not find any of them participating in these protests and they are likely to vote Republican. The family members who stayed behind are also doing well as professors, architects, doctors, farm owners. Out of them, those who work in agriculture are the most successful by far.

      I think what you see is not the true representation of Mexicans.

      1. With all due respect, this is indeed the true representation of mexicans in america. Name any metric and you’ll find them hovering around the same level as blacks (be it educational achievement, crime, income, single parent families, etc.). Your husband’s family is an outlier and I’m happy that they are!

        1. Yes, what the guy is saying is, with such an enormous presence in the US, there’s no Mexican Sergey Brin or Elon Musk.

          At my university, Hispanic graduation rates are only slightly above African American. I have a professor at my department who is Mexican. He’s wonderful, my favorite colleague, and I hope to God nobody else is reading this (and if they do, I love you too folks), but his excellent academic achievement can’t sway the median.

  2. It’s interesting. Same with Filipinos – everywhere, not just the US – and North Africans from the Maghreb: they’ve been in France for five generations and in the Low Countries (Netherlands and Belgium) for three, and yet no significant cultural achievements to speak of.

    They do tend to get into politics, though, but mostly if aided and abetted by local virtue-signalling do-gooder natives who are into “diversity” and “inclusion” when it serves their ideology (woe unto any conservative politicians with an immigrant background).
