In VN, until somewhat recently, one of the weird side-effects of the commie govt was that it was against charity. The country has a large population of extremely devout Catholics who ran various charitable missions. One of those was supporting and caring for lepers. Literal, actual, lepers, who lived in groups outside the towns. The govt frowned on this, because any charitable activity was an implicit criticism of the govt. They, after all, cared for the common man, upheld the downtrodden, etc. So if some other organization was taking on charity that gave the lie to the govt’s claims. The Catholics ended up having to conduct little smuggling operations to get antibiotics and monetary support to the lepers– decoys, slipping out under cover of night, that sort of thing.
This is similar. Because the left have appointed themselves the sole righteous protectors of the downtrodden, anybody else out there doing effective charity is showing them up, and they can’t tolerate that. It’s also why they’ve de facto banned believing Christians from being foster parents in several places, and elbowed Catholics out of social services where they used to have a large role. It’s why they have to attack the Salvation Army for sex-segregated homeless shelters, even though the result is fewer homeless shelters.
The hell of it is… they could’ve redeemed themselves the other way: by throwing themselves into charity and outdoing the religious. All the stats say they’re wealthier, on the whole, than their competition.
But somehow their “We’re for the victims and marginalized” philosophy does not actually extend to serving those populations. Must be a sore point.

Truly, it’s like they find these blameless, wonderful causes on purpose and hound them just to see how far they can go with this abominable behavior.
Lepers, the dying elderly. Why not buzz off and leave the charitable organizations help? But no, they have to hover, they have to persecute. Tiresome people.

I can understand if it’s a regular employer like Hobby Lobby or whatever, but to demand this from nuns is psychopathic. It’s the whole “bake a cake for me” thing all over again. Of all the cakemakers in town, you just had to demand your special cake from the one person who’ll suffer emotional and spiritual damage from making it.
