Forget blastocysts and religious views. What message do you think it sends to a child to know that her parents only want her on the condition that she causes no difficulties? That they wouldn’t want her if she were sick or imperfect in any way? What would it do to her to understand that, unlike other children, she’s deprived of the unconditional love of her parents from the start? These parents won’t become different people after she is born. The child is bound to be imperfect in some way like all people are. And with these particular parents, that’s not allowed by default.

These same people would be horrified if their spouses or friends cut off the relationship the moment they become sick or problematic in any way. And they are not dependent on these people in every way like a child is on her parents.

If you can’t get unconditional love even from your parents, where can you get it? This whole mentality is terrible.

The woman, whose startup has ignited this discourse is a Thiel fellow, of course. The more I learn about these people the more alarmed I become that they have their hands on the levers of power.

Oh, really? I didn’t know she was a Thiel protegee. I see her tweets here and there, and they are hair-raisingly scary. This woman is a total sociopath.

The only group in society I despise more than this Noor and people like her are pedophiles. But pedophilia is illegal while monsters like her preen like they are heroes.

They’re counting on us not noticing every small step of theirs is moving us closer to transhumanism.

“These same people would be horrified if their spouses or friends cut off the relationship the moment they become sick or problematic in any way.” Would they be? I see people like this advocating for a similar approach to adult relationships. You may be neoliberal, but you haven’t gotten as far as some people.

They advocate this approach to others. But if somebody did it to them, the whining would be endless.

Equating blastocysts (which describes mammalian cell structure at about five or six DAYS after fertilization) with living young children who are sentient and feel human emotions is just plain silly.

Absolutely. That’s beyond doubt true. But parents who can’t accept a child as he is before birth won’t accept him after. They will be the same people at every point of the process.

“I love you so much, sweetheart. But I had to kill your siblings. It was just.. not the right time? It would have derailed my career. “

“But Mommy would never do that to YOU.”

Gotta mess with everyone involved’s heads.

    H. Sapiens blatocyst is still H. Sapiens. How could it not be?

That’s why I’m very happy to be able honestly to tell my child that both my pregnancies were very wanted. I have no idea how one would explain the situation you describe.

Is it fundamentally different from screening fetuses for genetic defects during wanted pregnancies and aborting in case of f.e. Downs Syndrome ?

When women become pregnant later, the chance of chromosomal abnormalities in their eggs greatly increases. So the rising age of 1st pregnancy may be connected to the ads for “new parenting trend.”

I do not believe many usual people will use those services. In case of known problematic conditions of a certain couple, various screenings are already done in many cases. Ditto about single mothers or couples with fertility problems who must undergo IVF and already have embryos that can be checked for additional cost (in Israel, at least).

What you describe is definitely the beginning of this journey. And this new stage is not the end. The medicalization of children and the euthanasia of the inconvenient is the logical next step. We are already half there.

Can anybody explain why this should be legal? Other than helping this guy pretend he’s not gay, what goal does this serve?

Playthings and accessories for the rich and perverted.

Adoption agencies still have standards, but there’s no regulation on who can do surrogacy.

This should all be banned. It’s curious that the people who are endlessly outraged by slavery should support buying human beings so eagerly.

And to the point I made earlier, this guy can’t tolerate the ambiguity of having “an imperfect child.” He’s incapable of love. The relationship with his partner will not last for much longer. These are people who are incapable of love. And not because they are gay but because they are sociopathic narcissists.
