Iryna’s Murder Update

Decarlos Brown Jr., the man accused of killing 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska back in late August, was scheduled to have a Rule 24 court hearing on Thursday, Oct. 16. A Rule 24 hearing is for the state to determine whether or not they would pursue the death penalty.

Court documents said that the hearing has now been pushed back until April 2026.

Dude’s going to be released in a few years R this pace. And everybody will have moved on and forgotten because there will be so many more of such murders that it’s impossible to keep track.

        It seems like the relentless turn towards autofiction, memoir, etc. is the inevitable endpoint of wokeness. You can’t understand people of a different race, different gender, different class. In fact, you can’t understand anyone else at all. The only person you know is yourself, and you can’t ever step outside of that. Maybe people are afraid of losing themselves if they aren’t constantly focused on building their identity, maybe they’re just too self centered for it to occur to them that there could be anything more fascinating than themselves, maybe it’s just the only thing that feels politically safe, maybe it’s just a lack of creativity.

        Obviously there are talented people doing this kind of writing, but why is it a go to for aspiring literary fiction writers now? It does not help that many of the people doing this writing are mentally vacuous with dull lives. My apologies if I’ve gone on this exact rant in comments before.

      They wouldn’t jail him at all because he is “mentally ill.”

      I advocate for banning that phrase altogether because I’m tired of how every student who is caught cheating and every professor who misses a deadline immediately discovers a range of mental illnesses that justify the mess up retroactively. Everybody is mentally ill and nobody is responsible.

    Horrible story from Ireland, where a 17 year old Ukrainian young man was killed by a 17 year old Somali ‘asylum seeker’….

    I’m sure this crime means the Somali will be able to live off of Irish taxpayers forever….

        Yes, there are thousands of violent crazy people in Ukraine. They are called Russians.

        Jokes aside, I insist that Iryna’s murderer is not remotely crazy. This was a planned, cold-blooded murder. Witnesses confirm and the camera shows that he was very calm and in control before, during and after. So let’s stop inventing things in service of a narrative.

          Sorry, that was me, ethyl. Wasn’t trying to service a narrative, just… three seems like a lot, for such a weirdly specific scenario. I’m trying to work out in my head what that is. Is it a pattern?

          Is it just that this kind of violence happens all the time to all sorts of people but only makes the news when it’s UKR refugees because that’s an attention-grabbing headline?

          Are UKR refugees more likely to be targets because of the way they look (“I got that white girl”) and being lumped into physical situations where they are stuck side by side with Somalis and low-class American criminal rejects (public transit)?

          Are UKR refugees uniquely lacking in situational awareness when it comes to dark-skinned people, because they don’t have experience with that to inform them? Or because they’ve escaped extreme violence and let their guard down once outside a warzone?

          None of the above?

          Possibly phrased poorly, but asked in good faith. What’s going on with that? Is the pattern real, or a case of bad data? The overton window right now on issues of race and violence is being shoved, hard. Do we see these stories because they serve the people doing the shoving, or because they represent real things?

          Not really expecting answers, of course, just… processing.

            I wouldn’t say uniquely, but yeah, that’s part of it. And… no one tells them the truth in time for it to be useful.

            I remember telling Polish people getting ready to visit the US “If someone says a neighborhood is dangerous then believe them and stay away.”

            Dangerous neighborhoods in Poland barely exist and while people know how to avoid problems at home learning the ropes in a new country takes time and it’s worse when people either don’t tell you how things work or they outright lie to you….

              I would not imagine that FOB young people would have access to the sort of funds or job opportunities that would let them live in a good neighborhood, tbh. I’m wondering if looking like well-dressed white people, but being stuck in situations where they’re living in more typical newly-arrived-refugee places, is putting them in more danger than most. Does that make them targets?

                The whole concept of good and bad or safe and dangerous neighborhoods barely exists in Central Eastern Europe (maybe russia excepted and maybe places with enough gypsies to form ghettos).

                One kind of good thing about the socialist period was a general lack of economic segregation and both the rich and poor tended to live around each other (often in the same buildings).

                “Bad” neighborhoods in Poland were more likely to just be bit more rundown and/or have more daytime drunks. I’ve remember being warned away from places and then going anyway and like I said, a bit worse off but nothing remotely like the dysfunction and endemic violence you’ll find in western bad neighborhoods.

                My mother taught in a bad school in a bad neighborhood. Children of convicts and alcoholics who lived in the worker barracks. She worked miracles with those kids.

                I went to the school with the children of party apparatchiks and corrupt tradesmen. I’m still traumatized because those people were horrible. They had the standard of living normal Soviet people couldn’t imagine and there was such corruption, both economic and moral that it was scary. I saw life on both ends of the Soviet spectrum and it was grim.

              That’s exactly it, nobody says openly in the West that these migrants are scary, you need to stay away from them.

              When I first moved to the St Louis area, I very sincerely thought that the news about black crime in the area were right-winger lies.

                Kid, there are areas in many Canadian cities that are now dangerous because of poverty, drugs, and petty crime. Many repeat criminals would once have been locked up in mental institutes. Does anybody actually have a functional alternative?

        Central and Eastern Europe (except for russia) has nowhere near the number of violent crazy people as the west (and they aren’t as violent and/or crazy as they are in the west).

        And it wasn’t crazy violence, some reports say it was over food in the kitchen. A reasonable hypothesis is that the Somali didn’t like the infidel’s food (maybe pork) and since Somalis have a reputation or responding to any kind of disagreement with violence…. do the math.

          Exactly. The idea that all murderers are always insane is ludicrous. Most legitimately crazy people don’t ever kill anybody. These are simply very violent people who enjoy killing. And since there are rarely any consequences, there’s nothing to stop them.

          Let’s see how fast this Somalian gets released and goes on to victimizing more people.
