I think the spending bill passed the house, but now it goes to the senate.
So… movement, but it’s not over yet?

I believe Senate just passed the bill as well, so this should end soon.

In light of the Dems’ caving to the President’s shutdown, it’s time to break out the ukeleles and kazoos and sing along with Brecht–the Song of the Great Capitulation:
Birdsong up above
Push comes to shove
So you fall down from the grandstand
And join the players in the band
Tootle up that melody
Wait, wait and see
And then it’s all downhill
Your fall it was God’s will
Better let it be

How did the Dem base explain the need for the shutdown? If I understand correctly, the issue was whether to continue COVID subsidies for Obamacare. What is the thinking? That they should be extended in perpetuity? Or is a stage envisioned when the subsidies won’t be needed?
I’m very agnostic on the issue of Obamacare subsidies and ask without a shred of antagonism. I no longer access Democrat news and don’t know what people are thinking.

My understanding was the plan was to hold firm on permanent subsidies. It was a massive game of chicken, I suppose. Schumer isn’t coming out of this very well; despite his “no” vote, the thinking seems to be that either a) he can’t control the party, or b) the “no” vote was theatrical and he was all for the deal.
