The Winner

Of the guys on display, the one I like is the author of the text because he’s funny.

I don’t know if you caught this, it was all over the socials a few months ago, but there were pics of a normal-looking big handsome guy and the same guy after he lost a bunch of weight and got shredded. People were polled and a vast majority of women said they prefer the bigger guy and the men on the internet flipped out, accusing the women of lying. They were not lying, and the first article nicely explains why and how women’s attraction works. (Short answer: shredded guy is probably too particular about food intake, not relaxed or available to hang out, and generally seems unapproachable and too high maintenance to date.) Extreme shreddedness is for other men; women don’t ask for that.

Tiny speedos on men are a turnoff.

The level of self-absorption required to achieve the “after” physique: also a turnoff.

Totally, 100% I’d go for the bigger version. Men truly don’t understand female attraction at all.

Love this story, thank you for bringing it. I can’t explain in words why I’d instantly choose the bigger guy. It’s like an instinct.

I studied that one, and also think there’s a subtle inward/outward focus thing going on. A little body fat is healthy, and the dude looks pretty jacked even in the first photo. He also looks like the sort of person who is interested in other people, has stuff going on in life that he enjoys: outward orientation. In order to get chiseled abs, that’s– usually some kind of steroids, a supplement regimen, a demanding workout routine: is there time or energy left for anything else? Focus turns toward self, and not even in a constructive “How can I overcome my sins and get closer to God?” sort of way, but just physical, usually with a willingness to do longterm damage to joints, organs, and overall health in order to achieve short-term perfection.

The female iteration of that is anorexia. Also not attractive.

But I think even if you just compared the faces in those two photos, the expressions, you can *see* the outward orientation and the self-orientation, and yeah, ladies naturally prefer someone with some attention to spare for them.

Exactly! That’s really it. And also, the second version looks gay.

The reality is that women are their most attractive in their late teens, men do not even develop their shoulders until their late 20’s. I won’t say anything abour IQ because I am already in deep shit ;-D

That right there is the difference between “I want to fantasize about that” and “I want to date/marry that”.

Basically the thing that differentiates us from animals. Not a mystery.

“I want to fantasize about that” vs “I want to date/marry that”

Works for men too, though the fantasize part takes a much, much cruder form.

I wouldn’t pick up such a book because of the images on the cover even though I might like the text.

FWIW, the shirtless man cover is very outdated. These days readers ask for discreet covers and the books are more likely to look like this (cartoon covers in pastel colors) even though they might be spicy enough inside to sear your eyebrows off

Exactly. These are all attractive covers, plus you can pick up these books when you are at the bookstore with your kid and not feel like a creep who’s picking up lurid covers.

They buy them for the words. This is another thing many men don’t know. The best pornography for women has words, not images. Women don’t watch pornography but read it. Female sexuality is narrative to a very large extent.

Yes, why do ostensibly straight men refuse to believe what women find attractive?

Hundreds of women said they prefer the cuddly before picture to the out of proportion second picture. And the men just said the women were lying.

It’s no weirder than women categorically failing to listen to men who say… the exact same thing about reasonably attractive ladies with and without drag-queen levels of makeup. And probably for similar reasons.

Women do that to compete/signal with other women. But for some reason they cannot be un-convinced that men are supposed to find it irresistible.

I am of course not human, so it’s equally baffling in both sexes 😉

A great example is pelmeni lips. I have yet to meet a man who finds the huge fish-like lips attractive. But they still do it.

Well, we are very, very different animals but we might as well enjoy the differences because there is sweet bugger all that any of us can do about it. A sense of humour helps ;-D
