An anti-racist colleague said, “Look, I understand completely why you support Ukraine but have you noticed that only majority white countries are pro-Ukraine? People of color here and globally aren’t.”
To the very white anti-racist colleague, “people of color are against” means everybody should be against, too. Because “people of color” are an idol that must be worshipped. But he’s right in that the global favela is unanimously happy about the war in Europe. And unanimously supportive of the initiators of the war. It’s not mysterious why that is.
The reason isn’t that Russia gives them money. The US gave much more money over the years, and the global favela detests the US. They’ll take the money but would withhold the love. This is the issue of civilizational competition. Isn’t it enjoyable to see your competitor suffer? That’s what this is about.
Since we are on it, I strongly suggest we substitute the expression “the Global South” which is ridiculous because much of it is in the North with “global favela.” It’s a lot more descriptive and precise c

https://www.psypost.org/birth-control-pills-reduce-the-brains-functional-individuality/
TL:DR: study finds hormonal birth control reduces womens individuality, makes them more like each other. Brain-scan wise anyway.
caveats: small study, only 26 women. Only measured brain activity at rest (not during cognitive activity, or emotional stimulus), only looked at one contraceptive,
Points of interest: failed to replicate several previous study findings (that it was trying to replicate). Looked at the same women both on and off the Pill, with a placebo during the “off” segment, and found measurable changes in global brain function: so, not just one part of the brain, but the whole brain. Would love to see larger follow up.
Quote: “The analysis revealed that oral contraceptive pills caused participants’ brain connectivity profiles to become more similar to one another, reducing between-person variability. While each participant’s brain pattern remained identifiable across conditions, the overall distinctiveness of each person’s functional connectome was lower during oral contraceptive use. This effect was strongest in networks involved in executive control, somatomotor processing, salience detection, and the default mode.”

“To address these gaps, a research team led by Gino Haase of the University of Cambridge and Nicole Petersen of UCLA conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial to assess whether oral contraceptive pills produce measurable changes in brain network activity and mood within individuals.
The researchers recruited 26 women between the ages of 20 and 33 who reported past negative mood symptoms when using hormonal contraceptives…”
Science? At best, this trial may provide some insight on why some women have mood problems with one type of oral contraception.
and, it seems to make them fat too ;-D

Something tells me that a solution for women’s “mood problems” will never be found because their origin is not physical. 😁😁

Nah, Kid, I am pretty sure that it is largely physical, and those that handle it best are known as unicorns ;-D

I mean, of course, there is a hormonal basis to it but female community encourage giving in to moods way too much.

Yeah, as a child, females largely controlled mores and thus morals and therefore behavior, with males largely as added discipline — but shame was far worse than any physical penalty. Today, there is little or no extended family, mothers often have to work, and in too many cases, there are fewer effective fathers. Just wondering Kid, is this starting to resemble the social situation in eastern Europe when you were a child?

Thank you for sharing this information. With all the caveats of the case, it’s still very useful.

The idea that “people of color” are unified on anything is dubious. In SA, brown and black people have always been distinct groups.

It’s so much snootier than that: brown people all think alike AND white liberals are entitled to speak for all of them!

The colleague is completely right, though. Why should we pretend that this reality doesn’t exist? What’s the gain in this pretense?
They hate America and they see Ukraine as an American project. Which is why they hate Ukraine. I’ve heard this said in these words and with complete earnestness by pretty much every Hispanic person I ever talked to about this.

Yes, there are always individuals who stand out. But it’s undeniable that Latin America, Africa and Asia hate Ukraine and worship Russia. This is true as a whole and almost without exception individually. Although I am deeply grateful for the extremely rare individual exceptions.

Most people in SA worship English football and don’t know the first thing about Russia or Ukraine.

I wonder how much of this is dealing with cognitive dissonance…. I mean supposedly at one point russia was looking to import a million or so Indians, which plans kind of disappeared pubicly and have come to nothing.
My hypothesis: professing love for russia has nothing to do with the real place or even the ussr, but a pyschological coping mechanism to deal with how much they would prefer to be in the US (or Canada, or Australia or…. any English speaking country) rather than their own.

Oh yes. This isn’t even about Russia. This is solely motivated by pouty resentment against wealthy Western countries. And instead of understanding that this is what it is, Western countries waste their own wealth and undermine their societies by humoring these people.

Russia was always popular with the left because they have socialism.
In SA, attempts to sieze control of the means of production have been a complete failure and the government is starting to realize they need to play nice with capital even if they wish otherwise.

It’s kind of weird because SA is extremely corporatist. One of the reasons for the former president’s failure is that he was accused of running a mom and pop store.

At the other extreme, SA basically invented the modern private military corporation.

My experience has been literally the opposite. The same woke BLM/vax/mask/biden supporting white people switched to Ukraine as their pet project to support after Russia invaded. And in similarly cringe ways (“Putler”), that probably hurts the cause more than it helps.

Thank you for saying this. People are envious. Whole countries can be envious. Yet we’re somehow not supposed to acknowledge it when it comes to politics.
Providing more charity and aid often only results in more resentment felt by the recipient because it emphasizes how low in the hierarchy they sit.

Very, very true. Envy was large part of the reason why Russia invaded Ukraine. In Ukraine, the economy was improving, the standard of living was rising, and this was causing paroxysms of resentment in Russia.
