The fact that they’re speaking English is a reminder that the Russians lost the cold war.

Language is taken very seriously in SA. One of the reasons the apartheid was invented was to preserve Afrikaans from being replaced by English.

Cubans still speak Spanish but they are completely Soviet in everything else. Everything that was Latin about them is gone. So yes, language is important but it’s not all-powerful.

Yes, and Afrikaners have more in common with American conservatives than the Dutch, which is a major reason why the whole project was abandoned.
