There are enormous benefits to being an unsociable curmudgeon. For one, you can’t get cancelled for hanging out with people. Because you don’t hang out with anybody.
There was no need for the old dude to go anywhere and stand next to any women. Whether he did that innocently or not, his memory is now tarnished and his scientific discoveries are downgraded. I hope he enjoyed standing next to the prostitutes for 3 minutes because at least it should be worth it.
Neoliberalism promotes self-indulgence but punishes for it severely. Only the self-control of a sincere medieval monk promises comfort in a neoliberal world.
But the sincere medieval monk is intolerable because he does not participate, and then everybody else feels judged.
It’s the game where everybody loses.

LOL, c’mon, scientists may be fascinated by esoteric matters and notice very, very politically incorrect observations, but we do have a bent sense of humour ;-D

I hate to break this to you, but the incriminating picture from Epsteinβs files is the least of Watsonβs problems. Just look up Rosalind Franklin and all the hot water he got himself into after making various remarks about DNA and race. He was stripped of bunch of titles and died somewhat of a pariah. I donβt think Epstein file pictures are going to do much more damage to his legacy than what was already done before he died.

I didn’t think he was guilty of anything until now but his need to pose for pictures with a flock of eager hookers does point to extremely poor judgment, especially in a man of his age. I can’t think of a legitimate reason to engage in such behavior.

My point is that his reputation was already tarnished before he stood around those women, whether right or wrong. He was a person of poor judgement, unfortunately, for many reasons other than the Epstein’s house photograph.

Watson became a pariah for wrong reasons. Had I been in his shoes, I would have thought: “I am a social pariah now, my scientific discoveries count for nothing in your politically correct world? Fine, let me have fun as a pariah. I don’t have a reputation to care about anymore, and I despise your hypocrisy more than you can imagine.”

I’d think that putting the papers with his discoveries in the hands of literal rancid whores would be humiliating. To him and not to the general public. He degraded himself, for what gain, I have absolutely no idea.
I personally was on his side until I saw this photo.

Frankly, all that he is “guilty” of is being politically incorrect by the ever growing brain dead femenisation of Western society. Both race and IQ exist. The former now likely appears to be differing admixtures of early sub species of Homo, while the latter currently appears to be a mixure of both genes and environment. All Nobel Prizes, including that awarded for discovering the molecular structure of DNA, were decided by a committee of the Swedish parliament. Sometimes…;-D

“he found something else to express his resentment”
This was presumably a private photo that would never have reached the public, were it not for Epstein’s arrest and death and everything that followed.
“making the discoverer of DNA pose with hookers”
I would guess that these were Epstein’s staff. It’s said somewhere, maybe in Giuffre’s book, that they would be prostitutes/escorts/whatever until 18, then after that he lost interest, but you could hang around by becoming one of his staff.

What kind of staff poses with guests?
Also, it’s not true that there weren’t mature prostitutes. One of the most famous “victims”, I forget the name, was 23 when she was first hired.
