My main guess is that she is choosing her words so as not to offend a young left-leaning audience who care about misgendering and so forth, but I couldn’t say what expressions she is avoiding. And who knows, maybe it’s some other form of political incorrectness that she is trying to avoid.
By the way, I looked up the interviewer, and he was born in Odessa and his father went to jail for donations to Trump. So the interviewer too seems to be a political opportunist, who has learned hard into the opposite of where he started.
