Live in a Cell

That’s what I’m saying. You have to provide your own cell. Either move the disciplining agency inside of yourself or be eaten alive by self-indulgence.

  1. I would love to live in a cell without chores or distractions, maybe some ersatz food in a tube and a bottle of vodka for substinence. But seriously, I try to keep to a schedule when I’m not at work or else I get lazy. On weekends, I try to write 10 pages a day and listen to different music or watch at least two episodes of something or a movie with my brother to delay him from playing video games. Currently, we watch two episodes of Dukes of Hazzard or Game of Thrones weekends so he delays playing games.

I don’t have deadlines when writing but last August before the school year started, I made a deal with myself that I would write two short novels in August before school started. I’d been binge watching Vikings on Netflix and got a burst of inspiration, I did write two 100-115 short novels based on the characters and finished the second by Labor Day weekend and posted them on AO3, the fiction archive. Working with a self mandated deadline makes me eager and motivated, without that, I’d just be on Pinterest or watching YouTube
