Robot Teachers

People are not getting it. Melania brought out a robot for visual effect. Nobody is going to send robots into classrooms. The robots will be on a screen. That the kids will watch at home. While jobless mom and dad are zonked out with their own screens right there next to them. And school buildings will house data centers.

I halfway think she’s just trolling her husband by this point, like the ginormous hat she wore at the inauguration (that handily kept him outside of kissing distance).

I honestly think this is assigning too much agency and brain matter to this blow up doll. That robot probably has more of a personality than Melania.

I’m significantly more positive about the Trump administration than you are, but if I could see one change with the next administration it would be for it to be even a little bit critical/regulatory of AI.

I am extremely positive. How am I not positive? My main issues are immigration and freedom of speech. He’s massively delivering on both. He removed Maduro, he’s destroying the Cuban regime. These are all amazing things.

I may be misremembering/misidentifying your feelings about him based on brief moments of frustration you expressed in the past (which we all have about any given president.)

He has made some comments about the datacenters needing to generate their own power. We’ll see if anything comes of it.

Plato could be useful for our homeschooling co-ops to expand what we are already teaching our children.

A University Prof enthusiastically told me a couple of days ago that he is all in on the AI. He is looking forward to the robots cleaning his house so he can spend more time on teaching/research. I told him, that’s great, however AI is aiming to take over your job, so you can spend more time cleaning your house. I know a number of my colleagues are fully on board with the AI, but as dumb as the idea of robot/screen teachers is, I’m quite sure it is going to get implemented. Not all schools are going to survive this. Yes, the real person is superior, but with the way a number of us are doing our jobs, perhaps not… Plus, whoever is implementing this does not truly care that the students are educated properly.

The comeback about cleaning the house is hilarious. And spot on. These people are so clueless if they think the goal here is to help him. We are so screwed with people this clueless.

I think artists understand the problems better than scientists. The music school where I bring my child for lessons has some interesting anti-AI posters. My favorite one is “AI is destroying the environment. Save the Earth. Use your brain instead.”
