This is a country that had no army at all in 2014. And wasn’t even really a country. And now it’s a global leader of defense. It’s extraordinary.

Thank you for the great link! One of the absolute miracles of post-Soviet Ukraine is a recovery of the country’s Christian tradition. It seemed utterly impossible only 20 years ago but it happened. And it changed absolutely everything. This isn’t just about church attendance. It’s about the spirit of the people going from the Soviet cynicism and casual cruelty to light and kindness. Younger Ukrainians are completely devoid of Soviet legacy. It’s amazing to observe.

Christian beliefs were fundamental to apartheid and its opponents. Apartheid was based on Calvinist theology.
On the other hand, Mandela was a methodist.
