Ramsey’s Advice

Ramsey is right. These people shouldn’t get married. There’s no love in the relationship.  On either side there’s no love. She bitches about him to strangers, he humiliates her about money. These are people in love with their egos who have no feeling for each other.

    1. You can’t get financially stable without impulse control and self-discipline. These are the same qualities that are needed for lifelong marriages.

N and I lived in poverty. We experienced debt, unemployment, we lived in a studio apartment, in crappy rentals, with one old beater of a car that would stop in the middle of the street and wouldn’t start. And we had zero fights or disagreements around money.

      1. exactly.

Similar for us. Never been in debt, but the first decade of marriage– with kids!– lived below the US poverty line.

We didn’t fight about money (or much of anything else: we have very similar habits and priorities). We did become very very good at frugal living.

People fighting about money isn’t about how much money they have. It’s about other things.

  2. Yeah, either your vows mean something or they don’t. We certainly worried about finances, but we did not fight about it. We took our vows seriously.
