The reason why the footage is old is that Russians raped the Texan dude to death.
The 4 Russian soldiers who did it were sentenced to jail time and then immediately released and sent to the front lines again.
The story is very symbolic of all pro-Russian Americans. Russians don’t care if you are on their side. If you are American, they hate you.
They probably turned him into soap and made a lamp shade out of his skin.

Here is a Russian media report about the official investigation

My dude, Russians are not denying that this happened. There was a court hearing. It was very public. There are many media reports about this in the Russian press. Look right here in this thread if you need one.
Have you considered that your sources of information on other subjects are just as faulty as the ones on the subject of soap?

It’s really mind-blowing to me, how ignorant of russian discourse the russian cheerleaders in the west are…
Forget deep dives, just dipping a toe into russian-russian interactions on the war with the help of online translation is almost guaranteed to either turn a person into a raging russophobe or reveal them as a genocidal rageaholic…
russian media monitor is useful but if anything a bit too bland and moderate…

Russian telegram channels are filled to the brim with stories shared by Russian soldiers about how they were raping children in front of their parents in Ukraine. Stories of extreme sexual sadism. Just utter horrors. This is all shared openly to Great public a claimThis is all shared openly to great public acclaim. But people can’t let reality reach their brains because they believe the story told by a gay, submissive dude four years ago, and much of their self-worth rides on never admitting that they were wrong.
No shade whatsoever on gay people. Glenn Greenwald is a tragic exception in your community.

“ussian telegram channels are filled to the brim”
I don’t use telegram because… ya know… but I remember when a disabled little girl was killed in an attack on Vinnytsia and russians were overjoyed…
Later that year when Krasovsky was fantasizing about drowning or burning to death Ukrainian children I realized he was completely serious.
But putin’s the defender of Christian values, doncha know? And those shopping carts with coins? Pretty advanced!!!!!

They have fatherlessness above US African American levels, and that’s before the war. Abortion levels that are insane. All other metric of social health in the absolute toilet. Russia as traditionalist is beyond a joke.

It is just not your brand of “traditionalist”. It is a much more ancient / traditional one:
We have the right because we are stronger. (Although in our past discussions on human rights you have gotten pretty close to this one.)
We can do whatever we like because we were chosen by God.
If you take an enemy city you should kill all men and rape all women and enslave all children, this is how things are supposed to work, and what’s the point otherwise, and they should not have offended us in the first place. (In this logic it is only the superficial nature of real or imaginary offences that gets modernised.)

Yes, war is the natural state of humanity. No amount of liberalism can change the human nature. Sadly, this fact will always remain true.
As they say, liberals believe that conservatives describe their ideal scenario when all conservatives do is describe reality.

About war and rights, I highly, highly recommend Philip Bobbitt’s book “The Shield of Achilles”. Bobbitt is a political centrist, if there ever was one, but if you want to understand what informs my thinking about this subject, it is his book. It’s so good that I plan to use it as a textbook in the spring. Bobbitt was an adviser to several American presidents. His explanations of the rise and the fall of the nation-state inspired some of the leading thinkers around the world. For example, I originally found him through the writings of a Spanish philosopher who was groundbreaking in Spain by following in Bobbitt’s footsteps.
People act like what I say about the rights, war, and the nation-state is some sort of an extremely provocative thing, when in reality it has been at the foundation of political thinking for decades. People think that I’m a lot smarter than I am, which is sweet, but in reality, much of what I do is simply retelling.
Politically, by the way, Bobbitt is a Dem and a never-Trumper. He’s not a GSA Dem, obviously, because he’s not a clinical moron, but more of a Bill Clintonite centrist Dem.

Then why do you have problems with Russians killing and raping, if they are just realists?

This is like saying, why am I trying so hard to help my mother through her illness if she is going to die anyways? Cancer is just as much a constant companion of humanity as war. That doesn’t mean it’s good, and we shouldn’t keep looking for treatments.
Naming something doesn’t mean you approve it.

the Americans that go to fight for Russia are essentially wanting the US to be more like Russia. I cannot think of any better anti-republican / anti-conservative propaganda (i.e. an explanation why it is wrong to be a conservative).

Commies go to fight for Russia, too.

Maybe… but the commies are just delusionally nostalgic. The conservatives, however, do it out of more current ideological closeness. I am not sure if “if the law is not on our side we have to solve it “po ponyatiyam” is part of ideological closeness or something else, but this is also a factor…
