There is a kind of resistance going on among British writers today. They write as if it were still Ruth Rendell’s England. Even though their novels are set in the current year, there is no mass migration in them.

I’m not sure that’s positive… it helps create the illusion (used by those who want more mass migration) that it’s not a terrible problem. It also might reflect bubble existences.
