A very deserved win because Spain dominated the entire game. It was not a fluke win, but an actual real win.
Totally psyched for Spain.

it was amazing how much they were able to steal the ball from Argentina and kept the pressure on. I am super impressed with the Argentina goalie though. He had a lot to do! Spain’s goalie could have taken a nap.

It was as if Argentina certainly didn’t have an offensive strategy. A couple of times when they could have gone on the offense, one of the flanks would remain completely open, and there would be nobody to assist. I have no idea what happened. Yes, an amazing goalkeeper, but he was under attack the whole game, and at some point you just can’t stop the ball.

The Argentinians seemed really tired and not fully into it. Must have been all those games they had to go into extra time where as Spain beat all their opponents in 90 minutes. It was domination by Spain.

It was a good game. Good but very dirty. I was watching having not seen any of the Argentinian or Spanish matches in the 2026 World Cup, so I went in without supporting either side.
My take is this. Spain had the better players. Their offense was good and constantly kept up the pressure. They also didn’t really bother too much with formations unlike Argentina which was constantly trying to reform skirmish lines.
Argentina had a number of issues going against them. The first half their offense was almost shy. Oh Spain’s defense outnumbered them four to two, but they refused to press them hardly at all. Their midfielders seemed fairly decent, about equal to the Spanish midfielders if not slightly better. Up until they lost a player due to the red card at which point it looked like they sacrificed one of their two forward offensive players to play as a midfielder to keep their numbers up. On Defense, their defense was good, but Spain’s offense was just better plain and simple.
With the exception of the Goalie. That guy was extremely good and the fact he had been playing with a broken or fractured finger all season was nuts.
A couple of points of note. The game was very dirty. I am actually surprised only one player got a red card, though I will note he wasn’t directly red carded, but rather he was given a second yellow card which in turn acts like a red card.
Secondly Spain really should have won two to nil. Was the player off-sides when he got the ball. Technically yes, but I think most would have let it go since it was quite literately by a single arm. Though I suppose seeing as this was the final match of the world cup, if there was anywhere where they would be extremely picky it would be here.
Last point. On the players. While I don’t know how the teams played before this match in this one, Argentina seemed to be putting all their hopes solely on Messi. While other players did support him, it was clear that they were counting on him to practically win the match by himself. I said at the start Spain had the better players. I stand by that. Messi probably was the best player on the field, but without support he really couldn’t do much to turn the tide.
Spain just from my observation seemed to have at least three players on offense or midfield that were top quality. Their defense and goalie didn’t get much play so no idea on their part.
Basically the Spanish team was just that, they worked as a team supporting each other and not really focusing on a single guy. Which I think carried them at the end of the day.
Anyway that is my $0.02 on the match. Again it was a good match, but very dirty.

This is very true. Argentina had Messi, while Spain had a team. If Messi were ten years younger, it might have been enough for Argentina to carry the day. As it is, it ended up being Argentina’s goalkeeper’s game because the rest of the team never coalesced. I also agree that Spain’s goal should have counted, but the referee had unfairly ejected Argentina’s player and, I believe, wanted to compensate.
Definitely a very dirty match, that’s for sure.
