Enormous crowds of people waving the national flag came out to celebrate in every city of Spain. In Catalonia and the Basque Country, thousands of young people are chanting “We are Spanish” in a gesture of complete rejection of separatism. The narrative that the ruling Socialist party has tried to promote (“we won thanks to mass migration”) is mocked and rejected by the people. The winning players give interviews about their love of God, family, and the monarchy. The player who scored the winning goal in the final is making public appearances in a MAGA hat.

The second type. Think of it as the Moonies’ mass arranged marriage which is one step above the jihadi-crews’ mass rapes. It can work out for the individuals involved, if the individuals choose to make a Heaven in Hell’s despite, but it’s not the way to bet. Those individuals are on the side of the angels when they sing the praises of the former model.
That seems to be what is happening in Spain, God willing.

Since Colonial times, Americans have split among three camps: Liberals, Conservatives and “don’t bother me.” The relative proportions change but the third group has often been the largest. When the middle is unhappy, they go with whoever promises change. Now there is no place for them to go; the one promising change has failed. In the absence of a clear option, they’re coping using cognitive dissonance. Nothing unusual — we’ve been here before. So was Germany in 1932.
The other segmentation is education v anti-education. The middle tends to be anti. That’s a problem as it makes them vulnerable to fictional, fear-based arguments. Not what we need.

It was actually a MSGA hat, Make Spain Great Again. My take was the same as yours, a tip of the hat to MAGA and a sign of patriotism and love of Spain. But the left spin was that he was mocking MAGA and flipping the bird to Trump. I hope you’re right. Spain has one of the lowest birth rates in the world, short of an act of God I don’t see any hope, but there are precedents.

Torres is very religious, so I’m sure it’s sincere. Plus, the official promotional materials issued by the government feature a black player instead of Torres. So yes, he’s completely sincere in his conservatism.
