Great Bravery

This is extremely brave. People who say that she is doing it for money are morons. How much money would you accept to go to Kharkiv? There is no amount I would accept. It’s too dangerous. I’m scared. Loomer is not exactly starving, so taking on this amount of risk for money makes no sense.

She could have gone to any part of Ukraine. It’s a large country, but to go to Kharkiv is an act of great bravery. Again, if it were just for money, she could go to Lviv, where it’s mostly safe, collect her fee and scamper.

Sometimes I’m shocked by your naivety. But as I said before, politics makes for very strange bedfellows.

My friend, what’s with the catty, passive-aggressive behavior? You are better than this. Good things are happening. It’s time to celebrate.

I feel like it’s not a coincidence that Loomer is in Ukraine, at the same time that Zelensky and Netanyahu are suddenly together at the White House, but I’m not sure of the cause and effect. Loomer is said to be close to Trump…

A bill was being voted in the Senate that impacts both Ukraine and Israel. It’s Lindsay Graham’s bill, voted on the day of his funeral.

There was a tense scene between Zelensky and Netanyahu in the hallway, at the end of which they shook hands. Maybe Israel will finally scale down its support of Russia. Not that I’m counting on it much, of course.

And if Netanyahu magically disappears, republicans still have several clever plans on deck to ensure a loss

Democrats are addicted making sure blacks and illegals act as dysfunctionally as possible while Republicans are addicted to spreading the risks and costs of big business to everybody else…

How is any of this sustainable?

I saw the footage from Ceuta today. It’s sheer, unadulterated horror. And there is no mainstream political party anywhere in the West whose leadership is remotely interested in opposing this terrible takeover.

No new Ceuta footage for at least a couple hours now, AFAICT.

Either they’ve cut internet or they’re censoring. Probably censoring.

                (expletive) that’s creepy as heck.

                So.

Have been following socmed closesly on the Ceuta/Melilla news item. There was an initial flurry of video footage posted, and then some hours of total radio silence. I’d estimate at least four hours. Nothing new, just the original footage getting more and more stale as it recirculated.

I did my usual thing: checked the timezone difference, figured out what time sunset was in Ceuta, and kept refreshing, looking for footage around or after sunset.

I got it. About an hour and a half after sunset local time in Ceutas, footage started dropping again. Some of it from earlier, but most from after sundown. I grabbed links and bookmarked them. Now: search X/ceuta/latest, scroll down until I start seeing things from my last search. The after-dark videos are gone from the search. I can still get there from the bookmarks, but X has made them un-findable via the search feature. So there’s definitely censorship happening at platform level there. Possibly also at telecomm/govt level.

Those are tens of thousands of men in a city of 80,000. What are they going to eat? Where are they going to sleep tonight? Where are they going to use the toilet?

I wouldn’t want to be a woman in Ceuta or Melilla tonight.

I didn’t think it would be considered brave to go to Kharkiv, it’s a major city and not a major active warzone. Or am I wrong on that?

Bed Shapiro is losing viewers like crazy due to this affiliation with Israel. I imagine Loomer might also be desperate to avoid the same fate and is now trying something new that people can get behind.

Russia’s strategy in the war is not to win on a battlefield. It’s to destroy cities and torture civilians. Which is why I find it utterly insane that Ukraine’s strategy is to avoid any harm to Russian civilians. There needs to be a proportionate response. The war is being fought in kindergartens, hospitals, and residential areas.

In any case, it’s insanely brave to go to Kharkiv. It’s being bombed daily. Why Ukrainians have not razed the neighboring Russian city of Belgorod to the ground is beyond me.

“Why Ukrainians have not razed the neighboring Russian city of Belgorod to the ground is beyond me.”

Because if they did, they’d lose all Western support. Plus it would violate the Geneva Convention and the Russians would have the excuse to continue their abominable actions. I’m surprised this needs to be explained.

It’s strange how the Russians did this exact same thing many times over and lost zero Western support. Right now, in this comment, you’re actively supporting and defending Russians.

As for the Russians having an excuse, they have been doing this for many years without requiring an excuse. What are you on about?

Striking civilians doesn’t win wars. Russia has pretty much proven that conclusively.

Ukraine targeting the means for Russia to continue this war is the right approach, and as a bonus also avoids getting down to their level.

I truly wonder if people know how the Allies defeated Hitler. I also wonder whether they agree that defeating Hitler was a good cause and why, if they think that it was, the same methods should not be used to defeat Putin.

In the 90s there was a gigantic propaganda push in the US to make sure every man woman and child knew about, and felt terribly guilty of, the firebombing of Dresden and the civilian cost of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

              That wore off quick.

It felt like a conspiracy: you are NOT allowed to be proud of your country for winning WWII anymore.

I don’t want to be boring but this is exactly the position that Tucker Carlson takes. He talks about that often and a lot. To me, it’s a leftist position par excellence because it denies one of the great achievements of this country.

Unlike Russia, Ukraine depends on the West for money and weapons. Even if Ukraine wanted to bomb the Russian civilians, they would lose the support of the allies. Your assumption that I’m supporting and defending Russians could not be more absurd.

Yes, Russia has this magical big pot that creates endless supplies of money and weapons. Russia’s money does not come from the European countries that buy up Russian oil and natural gas in enormous quantities. It does not come from the western companies that do business with Russia. No, it all happens by magic.

One has the luxury of saying that when one is not under attack. At this moment, when I’m writing this, there are children in Ukraine trapped under the rubble of yet another massive Russian attack. According to you, this is an acceptable price to pay for the dubious title of not behaving as an animal, whatever that means.

Honestly, I’d much rather be an animal than a victim.
