Remember our discussion regarding the school requirement for volunteer hours? We now routinely get clarifications on how to calculate volunteering hours. The clarifications look like this:
I shrank the email so that it can fit into the post. I’m not going to read it because I’ll never get that assimilated. Besides, there is going to be a fresh one soon, so why bother with this one?
I’m not sure if you can see it but there is a lot of passive-aggressive underlining and italicizing.

They are getting a LOT of emails from many families asking for clarification. This is their attempt at clarification. This email will generate more questions from confused parents and will be followed by more general emails clarifying those questions.
Does this school have a long waiting list of children trying to get in? That is one way to deal with that particular problem…

I think that the parents who write emails asking for clarifications are even more weird than the people who send out the clarifications. I’m not overjoyed about the obligatory volunteering, but it’s not worth creating big drama over it either. If you add 2 hours of bickering on top of the 10 hours of volunteering, it seems like a weird time management strategy.
I am with you on this. However, having observed parents who send their children to a private school for the past couple of years, your way of dealing with this is an exception rather than rule. Also chances are good that most of the mothers have more time on their hands than you do, so time management is not on their mind.

Now I’m rethinking the entire scenario and wondering if the volunteer requirement isn’t needed economically or as a way to weed out the wrong kind of applicant and more of a status competition for mothers that the school is trying to manage….

Honestly, after observing people, I think this is exactly what it is. Moms on the PTA want to boss people around and are upset there are still people they haven’t been able to boss around.

That’s exactly it. I find all of this outlandish because I’m very occupied with a million different things, and all I want is to be told where to be so that I don’t have to spend additional time thinking about it.
