Who else crawls out of sociability events with a profound feeling of joy that you won’t have to engage in any more sociability for at least a couple days?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate my sociability events, but boy, am I happy when they’re over.

Oh, yeah. Even when it goes brilliantly, I want to clear my schedule for the next three days and not talk to anybody.

I’m not that extreme but a little goes a long way and I usually end up making a French exit if there’s no particular person who could be called the host. If there is I say goodbye to them and then leave discreetly.

Like Clarissa: this is definitely not limited to group events. It also applies to meeting up with a good friend and chatting for a couple hours. I enjoy it, that’s why we’re friends. But I can’t do that every day any more than I could get drunk or eat a pint of ice cream every day!

Exactly!! I enjoy meeting my friends. They are wonderful people. I have a very good time. But then I’m tired and have to recover. I enjoy going to the gym, but I don’t go every day because my body needs its recovery period.

    What is a sociability event?

Literary awards continue to decline in value, not that the Goncourt can sink much lower:

God, this is painful. What a complete degradation of all our important institutions.

A sociability event is when you socialize. Like going to lunch or coffee with a friend.

To be fair, the Prix Goncourt has been worthless for decades.

I was imagining maybe hosting a large event or something. I don’t think I’m operating on your level of introversion 😂

I’m a social butterfly compared to my husband whose only interlocutors besides me and our daughter are medical personnel when he goes for an annual checkup. 😆😆

for me a coffee or lunch with one person is great. I really enjoy it. But if any more than that I find it exhausting unless it’s a very small group I feel comfortable with. Which is rare.
