We wanted to do a small gathering for my sister’s family, my aunts, and me before the funeral. My mother’s illness was grueling, and all of us have participated in the care. We decided to take a moment and just be in each other’s company.

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving, so we decided to cook a turkey. As always around turkey-centric holidays, it becomes very hard to find one in Canada. We went to a really cute marché and found raw ones for $100 Canadian dollars and smoked ones on discount for $200 Canadian dollars. I shouldn’t be so surprised because at the grocery store back home, we have these very appetizing smoked turkey legs that go for $32 each.

Prices are getting so crazy that one has to start saving for a Thanksgiving turkey in advance. Put up a down payment, take a line of credit, and then pay it off until next year.
