The leaders of our union are actual, real-life psychopaths. The administration has been unable to convince the faculty to agree to cut programs, reduce salaries, and engage in other budget-cutting measures. So the union obliged. They snuck all of these measures, but in a much more aggressive form, into the collective bargaining agreement and encouraged the union members to vote in favor of it without mentioning what was actually in it.

The collective bargaining agreement is 128 pages long. Of course, nobody took the time, in the two days people were given at the beginning of the academic year, to read the text. They trusted the union leaders and voted in favor.

I also didn’t read the collective bargaining agreement, but I have a functioning brain, so I voted against. But I was one of very few. The collective bargaining agreement was approved by the majority of professors.

Then things got really entertaining. The administrators told the departments, “Okay, well, we now have to cut down your salaries and phase out all these programs because that’s what you guys voted for in your collective bargaining agreement.”

And it’s true. They did vote for it.

Circus freaks.
