The people of Michigan demonstrated that they want wild promises and not concrete actions that can improve their lives. Which explains why the state is such a mess.

But I sincerely hope that the general election is not a competition between two populists in who can make crazier promises to the infantilized electorate in search of a miracle. That would be very boring to watch.

It’s a blunder, I believe, to recruit Mitt Romney to make speeches and record robocalls against Trump. Trump’s whole campaign revolves around the idea of “we don’t win anymore; we need to start winning again.” To most people in this country Romney is known for nothing other than losing to Obama. He’s one of those losers Trump talks about. Unleashing him against Trump only strengthens the idea that the party leadership is in thrall to losers who hate Trump for not being one of them.

N figured out a way to make the baby sleep a lot better. He dressed her up in warmer clothes. Turned out she was cold this entire time.

This is not something I could have ever figured out because it doesn’t occur to me that anybody can be cold in this tropical climate.

Inside Higher Ed has gone completely nuts. It has published a piece by some crazed Putinoid with an Armenian name on higher ed in Ukraine. (I know he’s a Putinoid thanks to the code expression “failed state in Ukraine” in the blurb that introduces him. This is one of stock phrases of Putinbots.)

Putinoid propaganda has been rejected by everybody except the deranged folks at The Nation. It’s bizarre that at this late hour IHE should want to raise a pro-Putin banner.

Finally, there is an election related event that takes place during one of the baby’s naps.

17:03 – Bernie is incorrigible. The very first question is how he feels about Bloomberg not running, and Bernie twists the question around to condemn billionaires.

17:08 – where did Fox News find such a Bernie – friendly crowd?

17:09 – “Where does the right to health care come from?” Baier asks. “From being a human being,” Bernie responds without missing a beat. And this is why people love Bernie. Somebody needed to say these things in the public space.

17:40 – Hillary defends abortion rights on Fox. This is really great.

17:47 – Hillary makes an important point about compromise being central to democracy.

17:57 – Bernie definitely improved upon the lackluster performance in yesterday’s debate. And Hillary positioned herself well for the general election. There is a lot to be optimistic about!

People, what do you know about credit card debt consolidation companies? Are they legit or are they a scam? If a person has significant credit card debt on several different credit cards, does it make sense to use such a service?

Has anyone here used such a service? Or know anybody else who has?

As for how well Bernie could do in the general election, this question was answered yesterday when he made his “white people don’t know what it’s like to be living in poverty” comment. We all know he didn’t mean it the way it sounds but imagine the comment being brought up in the general election. That will be the end of the election right there because those resentful white folks who still haven’t gravitated towards Trump or Cruz will do that forthwith.

In the meanwhile, the comment managed to antagonize black voters just as badly.

I don’t believe for a second that Bernie is in the least racist. But he hasn’t had any national or international exposure. He lacks the experience of speaking to anybody but people who are exactly like him.
