Teaching Math in the Soviet Union

Marc2020 shared a hilarious story in a comment to the previous post. It made me remember a funny but completely true story from my mother’s teaching experiences in the Soviet Union.

In the USSR, teachers had to include references to the Communist party in every class. So during a 2nd grade math lesson, a teacher asked, “So, kids, 20 + 7 equals what?”

“27!” the kids replied.

“And what does this remind us of?” the teacher asked.

“That the 27th Meeting of the Communist Party is taking place!” the students answered.

  1. The communist party is planning to nationalize factories to produce shoes.
If they would nationalize 6 factories, they would be capable to produce 100.000 pairs of shoes every year.

How many pairs could be produced if they would nationalize 10 factories ?

Keep the possible sabotage by evil capitalists in mind and factor in the lazy worker coefficient.
