I’ve been looking for good, decent dresses that one can wear to work and that are non-revealing but beautiful. Finally, I found them on Amazon (where else?). I was a little nervous about buying them without trying them on but I know both these designers (not personally, of course), and their clothes usually fit me well. I also appreciate them because they have clothes in my sizes. Too often, you can’t find anything good in a size larger than 6. And I’m a lot larger than six, of course. The dresses are expensive but these designers make the kind of clothes you can wear for a decade and they still look like new.
So here they are:
The dress on the left is by Jones New York and it is available in size 14. Oh, what a miracle! It costs $134.
In real life, it looks a lot better than in the photo. The fabric is very unique in a way that makes you want to touch it immediately.
And it looks a lot better on a more full-figured woman than on this model. (No disrespect to the model, of course.)
I’d post photos of me in the dress but a have a rat’s nest on my head right now, so that will have to wait.
The dress on the right is by Evan Picone. It costs $99 right now. I also got it on size 14. This style looks perfect on a larger woman.
I always thought that olive was not my color but it turns out it is.
I’m not very tall, just 5’6, so both dresses come below my knee. Which is exactly what I wanted for teaching.
Many women say they are not into dresses but a dress is perfect for a lazy person or for somebody who doesn’t have a lot of time in the morning to select an outfit. With a dress, you don’t have to choose different garments for the top and the bottom and think about whether they will match. You just put it on and forget about it. Also, I find that it is much easier for a larger woman to find a well-fitting dress than well-fitting pants. I dread shopping for pants because it always puts me into a vile mood. And I haven’t owned a pair of jeans in over a decade because for a woman with a noticeable behind jeans are a torture device.
A dress also allows you to show off your shoes in a way that pants don’t. Dresses look great with flats, which is the kind of footwear I prefer.
I think I’m going to start a pro-dress campaign now.
I really like the green.

Thank you! It is very beautiful. And the flap on the front doesn’t open, even if it looks like it does.

I ❤ dresses and I was going to ask if they "unwrap." I hate that.
LikeLike
No, I wouldn’t wear anything that unwraps either. I can’t be in the classroom teaching, worrying about the outfit going in a wrong direction. Everything in these dresses is closed and stays closed. The belt in the first one is purely ornamental. And the flap on the olive one is just for decoration.

The first one, though, might need a brooch on the top half for women who are smaller-chested.

Pumping in the office sounds super cool. I admire you!

My chest isn’t even that small and I almost always have to brooch or tack closed those vee necklines; drives me crazy. (Not to TMI or anything, but I’ve always thought it had more to do with whether one’s breasts are right close together or farther apart; even when I was nursing, I couldn’t make actual “cleavage” happen.)
Pretty dresses! I am pretty tall, so I usually need to go mid-calf or it looks bizarre, but the lines of these are gorgeous. I never thought to buy dresses on Amazon. (Though I just got a pair of faux Uggz–would those be Fuggz?–from them on sale) I agree with you, with dresses you don’t have to worry about coordinating pieces…and nowadays I almost always opt for leggings rather than slip underneath…

Size 14! Hallelujah! That’s my size as well.
I am saving up for new clothes right now, and I love dresses (provided the fabric is nice) They are perfect for plus size women who are bigger on the bottom, don’t have to worry about the fabric wearing out due to friction between the thighs.

This is why I get all my clothes tailored — which is totally affordable in India. When I lived in the US, I actually had to take measurements for my friends and get their clothes made in India too. Sigh. Good old days.

I have difficulty with dresses because I am two sizes different on top and bottom, so if I want that look I have to do skirt and top. For pants, you should check out Chicos, as they are geared towards assorted varieties of curviness (I just posted about them on my blog if you want a more in depth description).

Those are lovely! (The green one is my favorite, too).
Like Shedding Khawatir, though, I rarely find a dress that works for me because my body is not the same size all the way up and down. I have a lot of skirts that I absolutely love, though.
(14 might be around the *average* of my various sizes … I am slimmer in the hips and waist, and usually wear a 12 there; my broad shoulders and muscular arms make me a 16, 18 or sometimes even bigger on top. I am also smaller in the chest, too, which makes it extra awkward! My dream is that someone will invent athletic tailoring for women, where a shirt or dress or jacket or whatever will be broader in the shoulders and thicker in the arms, tapering to a narrower bodice, and the pants will have room for thicker thighs relative to hips. Hey, it could happen … until then, I am handy with a needle and thread at least.)
I do really like the wrap style, though.

Those are both good. I like the one on the left best. I am also very pro dress for the same reasons as you say. Hadn’t thought of shopping for them online but maybe I should.

Thank you! 🙂
I shop for everything online because the environment of fitting rooms that are always cramped and airless and solicitous store assistants who say, “I knew you would need a larger size” stresses me out.

I like both of the dresses, both have very flattering cut. I have one like the top one in black. I wear it with a cami because I feel it reveals too much, especially when I bend.
Once you start wearing dresses and skirts you can’t go back to pants. At least I can’t. Pants feel weird and limiting.

I love the dresses. I’ve been looking for some casual dresses, myself, that I can wear to work, for the same reasons you also outlined. I have yet to be able to find any, although I did find a great sundress at Target that I wore a lot this summer. The only problem is that I can’t wear a sundress-like thing to work. You have to have sleeves in the workplace…
