“What Latin American countries need to resolve their problems it to elect one person who would rule over all Latin American countries at once and who’d be benevolent.”
“Only one country has been able to trick the IMF and give it the taste of its own medicine, and that was Russia. It’s a shame Russia is not in Latin America!”
“Racism is huge in Latin America today because of what happened with Hitler and the Jews.”
“The main problem in Latin America today is that they don’t have a fantastic president like Obama. He saved our country from another depression. Just think what he could do for Latin America.”
“Franco wanted women to wear non-Modernist clothes that showed a lot.”
“To solve its problems, Latin America should encourage individualism. Once this is done, poverty will decrease and the economy will thrive.”
The the student in your third example thinking that Latin America is in Europe? Oh boy. . .

I have no idea what the thinking was behind that. 🙂

Whe you post this kind off stuff, like your student’s answers and that, I get really worried. I also pity them a lot, they might don´t even know how stupid (they/their answers) are!

If they don’t know, it’s really not my fault. All of this was discussed, chewed down, explained on PowerPoints and in my comments. I don’t think I could have done more, really.
I’m also copying the funny responses, of course. Many people did extremely well.

I smell sarcasm in number four. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking… Number six is the best, though: nationalist brainwashing at it finest!

It is of course true that Obama (temporarily) saved the U. S. from another great depression. But, probably any Democratic President would have, as would maybe even a few Republican ones, under the circumstances. But the way the Repubenrons are going now, if they manage to take over the government, we are likely in for a far worse situation than we had in the 1930’s, economically.

What was the exam question? It couldn’t possibly have been, “Give me the stupidest possible way you can imagine to fix all the problems in Latin America,” but that seems to be the question the students answered.

The question was, “What solutions does Galeano propose. . .? Do you agree? Explain.” 🙂
Well, I wanted opinions, I got plenty of opinions.

These are funny. Probably not so funny when you are the one grading them, though!
