Does anybody have an explanation for why WordPress is trying to force people to go to its Homepage so desperately?
The following policy has been protested by crowds of bloggers, yet WordPress insists on inconveniencing many of its faithful users for some mysterious reason.
It happens only too often that a company creates an amazing product and then can’t stop futzing with it. I’ve been thinking about this today as I tried to dig out two lone cans of the original Hunts tomato paste from the huge selection of inferior new-fangled variations on the perfect original.
Some things don’t need to be improved because they are perfect as they are.

Does it up the stats for the WordPress homepage? I’m not sure how they end up being counted for the various tabs on the homepage, but that would be the only reason I could think of.

I guess so. They must have some reason to care about that, although I can’t figure it out.

If I won’t be able to get to it from my profile icon in the top left corner anymore, I’m going to be really annoyed.

Or the top right. Which is what I actually use. Oi.

It looks like they are trying to amplify the differences between wordpress.com users and wordpress.org users. Also, maybe it’s a value subtracted feature to “sweeten” the “Upgrade to Pro” (whatever that is) that they’ve been promoting on the upper right corner of my dashboard for a couple months or so.
I don’t know the details, but it seems wordpress.org (self-hosting) users who have the ‘jetpack’ add-on are basically exempt from this particular switch-over.
