A numerical (or maybe numerological) note: 36 is the smallest number larger than one which is both square and triangular. To see this, take 36 pennies (or other identical coins) and arrange them on a flat table surface. You can make either a square six coins on a side, or an equilateral triangle eight coins on a side. It is probably the last time your age will do this, since (IIRC) the next number which is both square and triangular is 1225.
I considered getting all the way to 1225 years old, but our state is trying to pass an amendment that will allow the government to mess with our pensions, so maybe not. 🙂
I love these mathematical bits of knowledge. Thank you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST SISTER IN THE WORLD!
wishes for this year of your life:
– a ton of travel
– green Card (well, kind related to the previous one)
– 3 publications as a minimum
– amazing students
– a lot more crazies on your blog (sorry – they provide great entertainment on slow days)
– more posts about elective C-sections (hehe)
– the most amazing trip to Europe ever … WITH ME!
Love you more than you know!!!!

You’re welcome. I was going to post a picture of baklava, since you said you’d be going to a Turkish restaurant in St. Louis, but I liked the sentiment of this ditty. 🙂

Happy Birthday, Clarissa! I’d sing a rousing round of “for she’s a jolly good fellow,” but it doesn’t lend itself well to a textual format.
