He is a “kulak”. A farmer who hires people to work on his farm while he sits there growing fat. In 1930s, it was enough to own a cow or a horse to be labeled a kulak and put into a camp.

You can laugh… but I think the reason why I especially like this image is because the worker and his son look like my son and I, only that the worker has broader shoulders than mine.
