The very first response to the question of “Which Spanish-speaking country you would like to visit and why?” elicited the following response: “I always wanted to visit the country of Barcelona because I heard that it has beautiful architecture and a great climate.”
I want to interpret this as evidence that Catalonian nationalism is reaching its goals.
But would Catalunya be a SPANISH-speaking country?! :))

As of the latest bail out by the central government I doubt you’ll be hearing much more about this. I still don’t understand why the modern left often aligns with tribalistic nationalistic movements like this, as compared to true struggles from oppression like the Basque region, who curiously enough no longer wants to separate.

I don’t align with Catalonia nationalism at all. I just prefer this to the alternative: the student has no idea what the word “country” means. 🙂
