TV News

Did you know that the average age of a person in the Fox News audience is 65? And in the CNN audience it is 59?

This is why my students didn’t even understand my question when I asked whether they watched news on TV. I shouldn’t have been surprised given that I don’t watch news (or anything else, for that matter) on TV either.

TV news reporting is dead. And that’s very good news.

  1. Amen. Just go to Twitter or Reuters if you want news or some type of alternative media website. The news has always been really boring to me and has only become more and more outdated annually. I used to watch some of the documentaries on CNN though, but that was years ago.

  2. I think it’s a shame that it’s dead. If it’s done properly it’s very informative and a good resource for people. It’s only because it’s biased and badly done that no one watches it any more.

Do your students read internet news sites or are they pretty ill-informed about current affairs?

  3. Yea it sucks when Al Jazerra (English) does a better job. Even RT news which is a Putin puppet does a better job sometimes.

  4. I think it’s good that it’s disappearing. Giving place to more open/competitive formats like blogging/videoblogging. I rarely ever watch them. I found more interesting humor shows with some bit of news carryover: Rusell Howard’s good news here in Britain, and Buenafuente in Spain when it still aired.

  5. P.S. The latest BIG news on cable tv is Mexican Barbie and is this another American slight towards Latinos?

Next installment will probably be Mexican Barbie and “Coyote” Ken meet G.I. Joe at the border.

  6. One might infer that you’re implying something is irrelevant if only elderlies care about it.

Anyways, CNN will rot your brain. Fox news is alt least occasionally entertaining. In terms of its actual news reporting, BBC news seems solid. Where do your students get their news? CNN.com? Obviously not from a newspaper (online or off) or the radio. My guess is they don’t get the news period.

      – I’m saying that in 30 years, TV news will die altogether.

      – Everybody gets news online, including me.
