I’m watching an interview with a Nigerian man married to a Russian woman.
“We have a very happy marriage,” the man says. “What I learned about Russian women is that you do what they say. If you want to stay alive, that is.”
This is why it always entertains me to contemplate the sad delusion of men who marry Russian mail order brides, hoping to get a silent, submissive domestic slave. If anybody is going to be silent and submissive in that marriage, it will not be the Russian woman.
In case anybody is wondering, compared to Ukrainian women, Russian women are quite, passive wallflowers.

Bosnians are the same. I met this woman who required my tutoring services. She responded to an advert and I told her it was too far for me to travel. After that initial rejection, she rang me back in ten minutes and told me that I could do it after all, as she and her husband would travel to me. She would pay me X amount and everything would work out fine.

The difference (AFAICT) is that Central/Eastern European women (in relationships with western men at least) don’t make a big deal out of being strong or independent (qualities which don’t immediately appeal to most western men) especially early on. They begin as sweet and helpful and cook and clean and are willing sex partners. This seems like heaven to the naive westerner who’s never known that kind of relationship before.
Once the relationship seems secure she very gradually starts to put boundaries up around her partner until she’s firmly in charge. By the time the guy figures this out (if he does) he usually likes this new stabilized life better than what he had before. Chances are she’s running his life a lot more efficiently than he ever did so most guys go with the flow.
If he decides he doesn’t like his life run by his wife/girlfriend then they have some fights until he gives up. If they break up for any reason then all hell breaks loose and he has about as much chance as a mouse versus a cobra.
They’re also adept at divorcing feelings from life strategy, if she decides that the guy isn’t what she wants or needs to improve her life she’ll drop him from one second to the next no matter how she feels about him emotionally. Most men aren’t capable of that particular move and don’t deal with it well.
The big difference between how they deal with western and local men is that the local men know pretty much where things are headed from the start. They also have more tolerance (appreciation) for crazy behavior.

This is all 100% true.
Most people of either gender are in reality super happy to hand over the control of their lives to somebody else. Life is complicated and difficult and many people would much rather just sit there while somebody else works it all out. I actually happen to understand that position, even though I don’t share it. What bugs me, though, is when people refuse to acknowledge that all they want is to saddle somebody else and have that person carry them through life. What I hate even more is when this position of a passive, weak, pathetic user labels itself as feminism, like in this famous discussion.

The sad thing in the story you link to is that the woman in question has no idea what she’s probably in for. Most men of the type who become doctors (or lawyers) _hate_ the feeling of indebtedness they have towards the women who supported them when they were young and struggling and once they’re established that hate transfers to the women themselves and many of them dump them the first chance they get.

Exactly!!! She is convinced she can ride his feelings of indebtedness into the beautiful sunset when, in reality, it’s the other way round. Erotic love and gratitude are very incompatible feelings.
