The greatest suffering I’m experiencing as I sit in the dental chair is not even contemplating the bill that awaits me at the end. It’s the horrible TV show that plays on the screen right in front of me. The number of gender-essentialist idiocies its 5 chatty and toothy female hosts have regaled the viewers with in just ten minues is horrible.
It turns out that men are primitive and incapable of expressing even the most basic thoughts and women are hypocrites because they never say what they mean. And it’s important for women to know how to manipulate men well because otherwise they will never take out the garbage.
Then the show informed me that men cheat because they want approval and women cheat because they want attention. The possibility that people might have sex because they want sex is obviously too complex for the show’s creators. Acording to the show’s logic, this must mean they are all men. But I shouldn’t say this so directly because that would mean I’m not a woman. And then nobody will be willing to be manipulated by me into taking out the garbage. And then I will just have to cheat to get attention from potential garbage removers. Who will cheat to get approval for their garbage removing services.
God, I’m glad I don’t have cable.
What was the name of this show? Maybe it was one of those boring formula sitcoms with the live studio audience or laugh track. I usually just have the news in the background when I have the TV on at all these days. I’ve also always hated going to the dentist. Found some of them to be very condescending people.
I’ll stick with Netflix if I want to watch the kind of TV I’m interested in and have been thinking about signing up for Amazon Prime for their streaming service, especially since they actually have the HBO shows that I’ve been meaning to check out like Game of Thrones and The Wire. Hulu Plus has the Criterion Collection, but much of their programs you can already watch for free.

It was a morning show on NBC.

Ah! Figures. That sounds even worse. 😦
I don’t know anyone who seriously watches those kinds of morning shows.

People wo are stuck at the dentist’s!!! 🙂 🙂 I’ve been here for 2,5 hours and the amount of completely fake “news” is overwhelming. Each segment starts with “A study says. . .” and then some piece of lunacy follows. Right now I’m listening to which places in the US are the best for achieving the American Dream. Of course, nobody attempted to specify what the American Dream means for those who are discussing it.

My dentist usually has CNN on in the background. Nothing special.

Reminds me of a dental visit a few years back. Part of the way into the cleaning, the hygienist turned on the T.V. to the Regis & Kelly show. She then asked me, “Do you want to watch this?”
I shook my head.
“Oh.” She looked at me, then looked back at the T.V. “I don’t think anything else is on.” And she continued to watch. After making a couple of gargling noises of protest, I resigned myself to it.

My students once told me that my teaching was just like the Regis and Kelly show because I look exactly like Kelly Rippa. I still hate that group.

On another channel there is some story of a scandalous video a Chicago teacher made. After what was done to the teachers of Chicago, I’m not surprised they are quitting the profession.

well, a little suffering is ok. just think how healthy and beautiful teeth you’re going to have. the dentist’s bill will be insufferably high but that is a different matter. you’ll feel better anyway.

Thank you! These visits are helping already. At least, I don’t wake up with a mouth full of blood every morning any more.

Just read this:

Can’t she leave El Salvador and have abortion in another country?

If she is really rich, of course. But I can hardly imagine any regular Salvadoran having that kind of money. El Salvador is a desperately poor country where the bsolute majority of people cannot afford this kind of thing.
The main causes of death of women between 25 and 40 in Latin America are unsafe, illegal abortions and domestic violence. 😦 😦

What country would you suggest?

It isn’t even a well-off person who can afford this. It must be a seriously rich person.

The show you’re describing sounds like a network show, on a broadcast station (NBC). No cable required. This is TV for the masses. 🙂

I am curious to know where this idea of “wanting to get attention” comes from.
I had it lambasted at me by an ex. Me: I am leaving you if you do not stop X. Him: you just want attention. Me: Good-by. Him: you just want attention. Me, later, by phone: Look, stop calling me. Him: you just want attention. Etc.
