Does He Not Understand?

A blogger asks about Polanski:

Far more troubling is his absolute dismissal of any attempt at gender equity. Does he not understand oppression?

Yes, of course, he understands it. Not only that, he lives for it. Why do you think he is so rabid that there are fewer women for him to oppress these days?

When I see jerkwads of Polanski’s caliber start foaming at the mouth about the horrors of feminist liberation, I always feel very happy. We must be doing really well to make somebody this nasty so upset.

  1. Part of what Polanski said:

“I think that the Pill has changed greatly the woman of our times, masculinized her … that chases away the romance from our lives and that’s a great pity”

I think the irony meter just exploded. Polanski, worried that romance is dead? Saying, in another part of his statement, that it’s “indecent” these days to give women flowers?

Right, Polanski. Give them alcohol and drugs instead. And by ‘them,’ I don’t mean women, but girls. That’s your idea of ‘romance.’

    1. The part about the masculinizing pill was the best. I thought that everybody has been aware for the past 50 years that the oral contraceptives contain female hormones, not male hormones. This is a myth that had a lot of currency in my country back in the 1990s when nobody was yet familiar with the Pill. When my aunt discovered I was taking it, she freaked out and told me I would grow a beard. After taking the Pill for 17 years, I’m still waiting for that beard. 🙂

And yes, Polanski and romance – what a bad joke!

      1. People, as a group, are scientifically illiterate to a disturbing extent. There are many nowadays who don’t know basic things about reproductive health, in spite of having this information be more widely available than ever.

Plus the masculinization has to also do with the idea of women having to worry much less about pregnancy every time they have sex. I wish I could find it, but there was a hilarious comment I read a while ago by a guy who thought that prior to the 1960s, women were always cheerful and happy about pregnancies, and it was only the feminists in the 1960s that had planted ideas of birth control into their heads and corrupted them.

          – Poor guy. It must be hard to live one’s life with this level of ignorance. I mean, the entire world literature has passed him by somehow.

  2. The blogger is an idiot. Of course Polanski is against gender equity. Gender equity means he can’t prey on young girls with alcohol and quaaludes. I mean,Polanski is an unrepentant self admitted child rapist who has never served time who people still like and defend and take seriously that should trouble him more.
