I remember that when I was a kid living in the suburbs my neighbours disliked trees because they were “dirty”, they hide the sun, and they left leaves in their swimming pools. I do not think that things have changed.
This is one of the many reasons why I left that place when I was 17.
Welcome to the Midwest. It is always a pity when an old but living tree goes down in high wind. Time to chop it up for firewood and plant a new tree at the site (or see if the old stump generates a sapling the next year). One hopes that land owners remove any standing dead trees (aka “widowmakers”) on a regular basis to reduce the hazard.
Trees can always be replaced. Lives cannot.
