“I’m not ready for a relationship right now” means “I don’t like you all that much; please go away already.”
So does “At this point in my life I need to concentrate on my career.”

Generally, any categorical rejection at all should probably just be interpreted as “move along and try your luck elsewhere.”

Very true.
At the end of the day, if someone really wants to be with you, there will be no doubt about it. All the half-assed “it’s not you it’s me/my job/my fear of commitment/heights/frogs” are just ways of saying they are really not that into you.
It’s such a relief once you internalize that and can stop trying to decipher mixed signals. When they are into you, that generally comes across loud and clear. Everything else is BS.
