Social Doses of Marijuana

The Illinois driving test requires the kind of sophistication I do not possess. Look at the following question:

driving1

I had no idea there were “social doses of marijuana.” How can I be expected to evaluate the typical social doses?

I am, however, very curious about the circles in which the creators of this driving test move.

  1. the wording of the question is not to say exactly how much but rather to eliminate 2 areas

    1. very high amount of marijuana use
    2. very low amount of marijuana use.

anything I’m the middle is the “social dose”. A very large gray area.

Why did they ask the question this way?

They want to know if you understand marijuana use impacts your driving abilities.

*it is obvious a high amount of usage would do this.

*they do not want people to fear driving from 2nd hand marijuana exposure as it does not impact driving abilities

try to find the spirit of the question if you do not understand the wording.

I believe the question should have been worded: “does direct marijuana use…”

  2. The dose has to be judged by the level of THC content. Considering its presently an illegal substance with no regulatory system for testing then how the hell do you know what it is? I guess if the cops face turns into a burger and fries youre past the social limit. 😉

  3. I have no idea what a typical social dose of marijuana is, but I’m pretty sure the right answer is that it will impair your sensory and perceptual abilities.

I think they’re trying to see if you are the kind of person who will drive in an impaired condition (drunk, high, tired, whatever) because you rationalize that you’re not that drunk/high and you think you can still drive. Since people always overestimate their competence (almost everyone thinks they are an above-average driver), the DMV probably wants drivers to think the only acceptable level of intoxication is no intoxication at all.

If I am right, you don’t have to know what the typical social dose of marijuana is; you guess that it is more than zero and answer accordingly.
