The Best Sport for Academics. . .

. . . is swimming. There is nothing special to see or hear, so one is forced into the thinking mode. In an hour of swimming today, I came up with an idea for a new article, invented a way to avoid teaching language courses next semester, and designed a new course. I even compiled a bibliography for the new course in my mind.

If things continue this way, swimming will make me the most productive academic ever.

  1. Goleeeee 1 !. hahahaha.

Daughter said that a couple of days ago she received a phone call from Real Madrid Football Club asking for donation to the club. She said: “Mom, can you imagine such a poor FC recently paiying 160 million dollars to bring Gareth Bale to their team, asking me for a donation?. This reminds me of my Alma Mater who hires and retains Deans, not for their academic abilities but for their ability to bring money from donations”. Daughters also studied at Yale. There seem to be some sort of similarities between academic administrators and their counterparts in sports. It is all about money!.
Goleeeeeee again!. This is what daughter just said through skype. She’s watching barça-milan.

  2. I’ll keep you post it because I am following it through daughter. They are now in the break at 2-1. Milan just made 1 at the very last minute.

  3. Swimming and running are both really good for thinking, in my experience.

If I was having trouble writing a paper in college, I’d run to the student union and back, and a lot of the time, that would solve my writer’s block.
