WordPress Against NSA

A new button “Protest NSA Surveillance” appeared in my Settings. This is what it offers:

protest nsa

Does the anti-NSA ribbon at the bottom of this blog bother you? I added it but it doesn’t have to be there.

  1. If the statement is one you agree with then run it, if not, not. It looks as if you are on the same side of this one as am I. I’ll have to take a look at my own WordPress settings and see if I can turn this thing on.

  2. Commendable campaign, I like it. And it is less intrusive than expected.

There are two things that kind of annoy me about the page you land on if you follow the link on the banner.

The first one is that beside the tiny bunch of logos, there is no way to find out which organisations are involved and responsible for this. That isn’t exactly the kind of transparency I like in political campaigning.

The second one is that the website apparently geo-locates you to send you to a page with a different formular depending on wether you are in the US or not. This isn’t really a big thing, a ton of websites do this, in fact your blog does it too. But if you complain about the NSA tracking people on the internet, maybe you should not be tracking your visitors yourself.
