Happy Hedgehogs Slipping Away

The seller was offended by our offer and now is getting all snooty.

Or maybe he reads this blog and knows that we already named the house.

    1. Oh yes. The starting price was $238. We offered $218. he came back at us with $237, 500. But there are no other buyers. Also, the house is valued on Zillow at $280. They are all about $280-330 in that subdivision.

      1. The zillow estimates are garbage. I don’t know how they are done, but none of the houses in my area sold even close to their estimate.

        1. I’ve looked at the county records of all of the houses in the subdivision (they are all typical on the inside but different on the outside), and their selling prices confirm Zillow’s estimates.

In any case, that doesn’t matter because WE ACCEPTED THE COUNTER-COUNTER-OFFER. :-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  1. I hate that offer-counter-offer game. When I bought my house I offered 5k less than the starting price even though I knew I should made an offer of about 10K-15K less. The seller of the house you like could have said 228…, especially since there are no other buyers.

  2. I would say: you really like the house, the price is very reasonable for the neighborhood, so just give him what he wants and be done with it.
It seems the house is already priced to sell, so I understand why he won’t go much below the asking price…

  3. “And by leaning I mean “have fallen into it headlong and in a rush.”

You made the right decision. Because of the nature of such a transaction we always structurally feel in a rush. The house looks great. And the price is ridiculous. In my area this house would sell at 350K. And in Toronto ni hablar.

If it is priced to sell go with the counter-offer!

    1. It has this little apartment on the ground floor, with its own kitchenette, bathroom, shower and entrance into the backyard.

And there is a window with a view in the master bathroom. And an enormous tub.

    2. Of course, there are downsides. The by laws prohibit us from starting our own meth lab and we can’t dry clothes on a clothesline. And is been counting on doing one of these activities.

So you watched all those seasons of Breaking Bad for nothing? Damned meddling busybodies!

      2. The clothesline thing is probably to preserve the looks of the neighborhood. The same reason our HOA is adamant about cleaning the leaves and brush from the year as promptly as possible.
