Shoes or Torture Devices?

My sister is here, and that means we’ve been shopping. A lot. Here is what we found in an outlet mall:

      1. Oh they’re scary alright, they just bring out in me a sense of physical challenge, a miniature version of the feeling I get when wondering if I can scale a certain wall. Granted, I haven’t gone climbing or worn anything with heels for 5 years now, so the feelings are also similar in the way they remain divorced from any action.

  1. If one is going to wear really really high heels, these strike me as slightly more functional than the stilettos you usually see. In these shoes, the foot is perched just as high, with the ball of the foot bearing most of one’s weight (as happens in more conventional high heels), but there’s no spike on the back to sink into soft ground or get stuck in grates. I imagine they’re more friendly to fine carpets and wood floors for that reason, as well.

But I still wouldn’t wear them.

  2. I went and read some reviews of shoes similar to this on Amazon, just to see if people who bought them really liked them or not. It seems like they get more good reviews than bad. But to me, (1) they look ridiculous, (2) I’d think that they would be really easy to fall down in or sprain your ankle while wearing. I wouldn’t wear them, despite the fact that I occasionally wear heels. (I wear them less the older I get, though. I am getting more and more practical with time.)
