We just saw this very sad and creepy Mother’s Day gift at Sam’s Club. It’s a cactus with a plastic bird on it inside a cage. If it’s supposed to symbolize a woman’s life, that’s kind of depressing.
Birdcage decor is “in” at the moment, but I agree; anyone who offers up a birdcage as a mother’s day present hasn’t read much 19th/early 20th century literature by women.
I googled “bird cage decorations for weddings” and found numerous pics too. But they disappointed me by not putting bride and groom figures inside a cage. Only flowers so far. 🙂
I don’t like Birdcage decor, unless it’s a real bird cage with a real bird inside. A cage has negative associations to be used for something happy, imo.
all things motherly. But the cage has to be gilded.

It’s not just a bird cage but also a plastic bird on top of a cactus. The whole thing is disturbing.
