So did you, folks, know that these lawns have to be mowed all the time? I just had mine mowed only a week ago and it already looks overgrown. Is that normal? I thought it would take a month to grow back.

Gardening takes a lot of time. People get really competitive about their lawn.
You might also want to get a snow-blower to go along with your lawn mower.

They aren’t mocking you clarissa. My step-sister lives in arizona and basically its just a pile of dirt.. hence no need to mow 🙂 And yes, with all the rain, where I live have had to cut every 5 days for last month

A solution might be to cut it really short, but the pitfall with that is that if you have a drought it’s more likely to die. A slightly longer cut grows out quicker but also stays green longer. My family mows less often than we should, but my neighbors tend to do it once every two weeks or so.

How often you need to mow depends on how much it’s been raining recently. Mowing once a week is pretty normal if you are getting regular rainfall. It can go two or three weeks (sometimes longer) if you have a dry spell.
I would not risk killing the grass by cutting it extremely short. It’s a huge pain to get new grass to grow in dead spots.

It’s something to do gradually over a few years, but perennial gardens are your friend. Slowly landscape as much of that annoying grass as you possibly can away into perennial flowers and thick ground cover (like periwinkle or roman chamomile), then it won’t need mowing as much. 🙂 But don’t do it all at once, or you’ll be broke and drive yourself crazy.
